Purpose and Scope
- This position is seen as key role within Magstim. The position holds operational influence and performance will directly affect the success of the company.
- The job holder will need good communication skills to work effectively with engineering, production and quality departments and have the maturity to participate in the management team.
Education
- Qualification - Degree Level or equivalent
- Subject - Electrical Engineering / Electronics
Employment experience
- To have held a design engineer position for at least 3 years post qualification during which some staff supervisory experience will have been gained.
Technical Skills
Essential:
Documented competence and successful implementation of work in the following areas:
- Analogue circuit design (0 to 20MHz, but not RF). The individual will have designed analogue circuits with requirements which required first-rate subject knowledge. The ideal candidate will have had some experience with high power electronics up to 3kW
- An understanding of PCB layout requirements
- Capable of creating designs able to meet electromagnetic compatibility requirements
- Experienced in design for manufacturing and value engineering
- Able to work within constraints of cost and time targets
- Good technical multidisciplinary engineering skills with an understanding of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Plastics, Heat Transfer
- Mathematical background with the capability of applying this to development and design challenges
Practical experience of the following highly desirable:
- Embedded microcontrollers and interfacing of these to analogue and digital circuits
- State machine implementation within small programmable logic devices
- Failure Mode Effect Analysis of electronic circuit design
- Working with external test houses, for example on – EMC or safety testing
- Product verification
- Risk management and control methods
- Industrial experience of Product lifecycle
- Designing electronics for medical application i.e familiarity with the relevant standards and requirements.
Desirable: Will have worked on projects where the understanding of the following was necessary;
- System integration.
- Programming.
- Embedded software architecture.
- C and Machine Code.
- PC development systems such as Visual Basic.
- New product introduction techniques
- Generation of verification procedures and test reports

Accountability and Responsibilities
- The job holder will directly report to his or her Line Manager and there are no direct reports at this stage
