Magstim DC Stimulators - now available.
7 Apr 2008For many years, Magstim has been at the forefront of the development of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) devices used to alter brain activity as well to influence neuroplasticity by means of external stimulation. Magstim is now proud to announce a new range of devices, compatible with our magnetic stimulators.
Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) is a technique whereby weak electrical currents are applied, to the head, with the intention of inducing long-lasting neuronal excitability and activity. tDCS is a technique that does not cause muscle twitches, seizures or other unwanted effects associated with older forms of electrical stimulation.
tDCS is emerging as a major research tool in its own right and is complementary to conventional TMS; it has become an exciting technique with current research focusing on:
- cognitive studies
- studies of the visual system
- studies applying tDCS to the motor cortex
- exploration of motor learning and plasticity
- rehabilitation following stroke
- the treatment of depression
Magstim DC Stimulators have been developed to provide users the maximum degree of flexibility and compatibility with existing Magstim TMS devices. Magstim remains committed to providing researchers with equipment that offers a variety of stimulation modes and parameters within the exciting field of brain stimulation and research.
