The Magstim Air Film Coil is the first of a new generation of stimulating coils which allow users to stimulate for extended periods of time. This improvement has been achieved as a result of an advanced, registered method of coil design and manufacture based on research carried out by Dr Reza Jalinous* in Boston, USA.
Stimulating Versatility
The Air Film Coil has been created to work in combination with Magstim Rapid2 stimulators, allowing users to utilise the full capabilities of the range. The Rapid2 magnetic stimulators can operate from 1Hz to 100Hz, using a touch screen interface which manages every aspect of the stimulator's control and operation.

Using managed ambient air flow and integrated temperature-regulated fan technology, the Air Film Coil is cooled without the need for an external cooling supply or water reservoir. The novel air cushion prevents the coil from ever coming into contact with the patient, resulting in uncompromised patient safety.
Totally Flexible
The Air Film Coil is an integral part of a package which also includes a highly flexible and ergonomically designed positioning arm that facilitates extended periods of stimulation. Fully articulated, with friction joints, the Air Film Coil arm makes handling and positioning both simple and precise.
For research purposes, a placebo derivative of the coil is available, to simulate the effects of active stimulation. By stimulating the peripheral nerves of the face and scalp, the Air Film Placebo Coil looks, sounds and feels the same as a live coil both to the subject and operator, but does not deliver active stimulation of deep nerves.
Key feature of the Air Film Coil:
- Delivers up to 3,000 pulses at 75% motor threshold at 10Hz stimulation (Biphasic waveform) over a 37.5 minute period and remains within allowed temperature limits (with a starting temperature of 22° C).
